Gerhard Starsich

Gerhard Starsich has been CEO of the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich AG) since July 2011 and a member of the Executive Board since 2008. He is primarily responsible for the development of corporate, brand and communication strategies, finance and treasury, as well as IT and human resources management.

The business administration graduate began his career in the accounting department of Austrian Airlines. From 1988, he worked at the auditing firm Arthur Andersen. In 1991, he moved to the Austrian National Bank. From there, he was appointed to the European Monetary Institute, now the European Central Bank, in Frankfurt am Main in 1994. Returning to Vienna, he worked from 1997 as Director of Finance and Controlling at the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy. In 1999, Starsich returned to the Austrian National Bank as Managing Director, overseeing the successful restructuring of APSS GmbH (Austrian Payment Systems Services) and Austrian Card Plastikkarten und Ausweissysteme GmbH. Starsich was also responsible for the integration of Austria Card into the Lykos Inform Group.
