The ICA has expressed its concern regarding the EBA’s recent recommendation to use contactless payments in order to avoid contamination with the COVID-19 virus. Inaccurate links have been drawn between the use of cash as a payment medium and the spread of COVID-19. Several central banks have now confirmed that cash is safe to use and there is no evidence that cash would transmit the virus
